What is Moleskin ?
Moleskin is a durable, heavyweight cotton fabric with a soft, napped surface that resembles the fur of a mole. It's known for its density, warmth, and resistance to wear, making it suitable for workwear, outerwear, and even some formal wear. The name "moleskin" comes from the fabric's resemblance to mole fur, not from any animal skin.
Construction:
Moleskin is typically made from 100% cotton, though it can be found in cotton blends as well. It's a tightly woven fabric, often a twill weave, that is then napped or brushed on one side to create a soft, velvety texture.
Moleskin is known for its:
Durability: The dense weave makes it resistant to wear and tear, ideal for workwear and outdoor activities.
Warmth: The brushed surface and dense weave trap air, providing insulation and warmth.
Softness: The napped surface is soft and comfortable against the skin.
Water Resistance: The tight weave and nap can offer some resistance to light rain or moisture.
Wrinkle Resistance: The fabric's structure, with the brushed surface, makes it relatively wrinkle-resistant.
