What is gaffer tape used for?

Gaffer tape serves many purposes on a film or television set—essentially, any time you need to stick two things together, or mark something, gaffer tape can come to the rescue.

Most commonly, gaffer tape is used for taping cables to the ground or floor to prevent them from moving or people tripping on them. Brightly coloured gaffer tape (like our pink fluro variety from Tenacious) can be used as spike tape to mark where set pieces should be placed or actors should stand.

Our white, black, and beige varieties of gaffer tape are very popular, because their matte cloth finish means they won’t cause glares or show up on most cameras.

The gaffer tape we carry also can be easily torn by hand, so professionals can easily tear away what they need and place it without having to hunt for scissors.

Gaffer tape is one of those things that you always need—so why not stock up now? Get a few different sizes and colours, and rest easy knowing you won’t have to hunt around for your gaffer tape again.
