T-markers are used in filmmaking to indicate where actors should stand and move during a scene. They can be made from tape or metal brackets and are used for a variety of purposes, including: Actor positions, Focus marks, Boom op positions, and Camera and lighting equipment placement.
The reason T shapes are used is because it tells your actor how far left and right they need to be, but also how far forward or back they need to be.
Having T-marks and tape helps to improve accuracy when shooting as the actors, camera and focus puller know where they need to be to hit their marks. If you need to do many takes, the technical side of the filmmaking will be consistent and it will help save time when shooting.
Here are some tips for using T-markers:
Use different colors for each actor: This helps actors keep track of where they are.
Use a separate color for focus or camera department marks
Check the frame: Make sure the marks won't be visible in the shot.
Use tape: Tape can be used to secure the T-marks so they are bright and visible. Industry Marks™ colours match most existing paper tape colors
